Are analyst salary bands "firm" for NYC BBs?

Your typical FO role (IB, S&T) is always $110-$125k at BBs in New York. I know they're supposed to be a good faith estimate rather than a set rule, but what are the chances a lateral/sector pivot person can get more, like $135k?

For example I have a CRE mortgage background wanting to pivot to MBS research as an analyst. Do I have some hope of playing in the $120-$140k range? I find MBS much more interesting but would not want to take so much of a pay cut down to $110k just to do something more interesting.

PS: bonus if anyone can give a data point on bonus for MBS research analyst roles. There's a post at JPM and Deutsche out right now.
