Make sure you ask your recruiter which desks will be hiring. Last summer, they placed people on desks that weren't even looking for FT analysts, thus making it harder to get hired. They really stress networking to all the SAs, which is important anyway, but a major part of being an SA is making sure you can secure a FT position, which obviously is easier if you are working on a desk that's actually trying to find its next analyst.

FX trading is legit at BarCap. What about Equities? I didn't see any desks listed....

thanks for the advice. Yeah, I heard Barcap's FX trading is quite legit. How about their commodities and rates desks? I intentionally didn't list equities because I am personally not that interested in trading equities. But here are some of the equities desks they are hiring for SA.

* Cash Trading * Desk Based Analytics * Electronic Trading * Equities Strategies-Automatic Volatility Trading (AMM) * Equity & Fund Structured Markets (EFS) Trading * Flow Volatility Trading * LatAm Cash Trading * Special Situations Trading * Syndicate

According to that Citi report that's been floating around Barcap has been dominant in Commodities and FX-EM, in fact anything on the FICC side of BarCap is probably the way to go as long as they are hiring on that desk.

I personally would jump on the commodities desk.

how come there are so few sales options? or did you just not list them?

are there a lot of prime services desks?

i would imagine prime services desks will grab a lot of people, like it or not. coz a lot of people left recently and they have a ton of headcounts to fill.

in terms of trading, commodities, fx, credit, rates, eq, all pretty damn good.

yeah, i just didn't list sales positions

there were a lot of prime services desks as well which i didn't list.

These are prime services desks that are hiring.

* Capital Solutions * Client Service Sales * Credit Financing Trading * Equity Financing Sales * Financing Margin (Risk Management) * Futures Sales * Futures Trading * Liquid Markets Financing Trading * Origination Sales * Product Management Foreign Exchange * Product Management- Core * Product Management- Metrics & Analytics

By the way, do you guys know what these commodities desks do? If you can pick one out of these three, which one would you choose?

  1. Crude Oil & Refined Products Trading, 2. US Index Trading, 3. US Power & Gas Trading

in case you guys dont know:

Hybrids Trading = they trade preferred stocks, mostly in yankee financial space Electronic Trading = equity analytics tool development. Not actually trading securities Equities Strategies-Automatic Volatility Trading (AMM) = a walled off proprietary option trading group. Flow Volatility Trading = just a fancy name for equity option trading Securitized Products Trading = mortgage desk Municipals - Derivatives Marketing Trading = structuring Rates- Vanilla Options Trading = swaptions

Eq cash trading is very popular.

Isn't cash equities trading basically dying down? Algorithms can do a better job of trading cash products than humans can. And also cash equities is considered the least prestigious trading desk at any bank and provides the least exit opportunities.

Commodities, FX, and exotic derivatives, are hot desks right now.
