Best Time To Networking/Cold Email

When do you guys recommend sending emails to salespeople and/or traders. Does it differ junior vs senior. Currently Im sending them in 8:30 so before markets but right at the time they sit at their desk. Also do you guys send emails on Mondays or Friday, I try to avoid Mondays but avoiding Fridays gives so little days to reach out.

From my personal experience, I find the most successful time is after the markets have closed. I send them a connection request with a message that’s personalized of course and nothing general. I’ve seen the best successful days being Tuesday and Thursday for some reason and the best time where everyone usually replies back to me being around 6/7pm and that’s where we have our calls

Based on the most helpful WSO content, timing is crucial when networking or cold emailing salespeople and traders. Here are some key insights:

  1. Best Days to Email:

    • Avoid Mondays: Professionals are often overwhelmed with tasks and catching up from the weekend.
    • Avoid Fridays: Emails sent on Fridays are more likely to be ignored or postponed until the following week.
    • Optimal Days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are generally the best days to send emails. These days strike a balance between the start and end of the workweek.
  2. Best Times to Email:

    • Before Markets Open: Your current strategy of sending emails at 8:30 AM is solid, as it aligns with the time professionals are settling in at their desks.
    • Late Afternoon: Another effective window is from 4-5 PM. This is when professionals are wrapping up their day and may have more bandwidth to check emails.
  3. Junior vs. Senior Professionals:

    • Junior Professionals: They may have more flexibility and time to respond, so your current timing (8:30 AM) works well.
    • Senior Professionals: They are often busier and more selective with their time. Late afternoon (4-5 PM) might be better for reaching them, as they may be less preoccupied with immediate tasks.
  4. Follow-Up Strategy:

    • If you don’t receive a response, send a polite follow-up email about a week later. Persistence is key, but avoid overdoing it to prevent coming across as pushy.

By targeting the right days and times, you can maximize your chances of getting a response.

You don't think 8PM would be too late for S&T? I have found more success with vp's and I feel like they would be more responsive around 5-6. But what works works so thanks.

If you are doing it via LinkedIn there is no set time, I will see it and I will get back to you at some point. If you are reaching out via email I’d say Fridays are usually pretty dead after 1pm and I will see your email and try to respond. I guess after 4pm other days but sometimes those get lost if the end of the day gets busy, most people are not glued to their email after market hours so anything you send at 7pm is not going to get looked at until the next morning and might get lost at what is coming over in the AM
