BP Trading Internship (Chicago) interview advice

Hi everyone, I found out I have a technical interview coming up with BP for their ST&S Trading internship (Chicago office). Does anyone have ideas on the kinds of questions that get asked, or any resources I could use to prepare? I have heard it is case related but not sure what kinf (Supply/demand, fixed price contracts etc).

Would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice for preparing for a technical interview with BP for their ST&S Trading internship:

  1. Case-Related Questions:

    • Expect questions related to supply and demand dynamics, fixed price contracts, and potentially commodity risk scenarios. These are common areas of focus in trading-related interviews, especially for roles tied to commodities.
  2. Preparation Resources:

    • Brush up on macroeconomic principles that influence commodity markets, such as oil and gas price fluctuations, geopolitical impacts, and market trends.
    • Familiarize yourself with financial modeling basics and how they apply to trading scenarios. WSO's Financial Modeling Resources and Excel Resources could be helpful here.
    • Review case studies or examples of trading strategies, particularly those involving hedging, arbitrage, or risk management.
  3. Behavioral and Fit Questions:

    • Be prepared to explain why you are interested in trading and why BP specifically. Highlight any relevant coursework, internships, or personal projects that demonstrate your interest and capability in trading.
    • Practice answering questions about teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure, as these are critical skills in trading environments.
  4. Mock Interviews:

    • Consider scheduling a mock interview with professionals through WSO to simulate the technical and behavioral aspects of the interview.
  5. General Tips:

    • Stay updated on current events in the oil and gas markets, as well as broader commodity trends.
    • Be ready to discuss real-world scenarios where you might need to analyze market data, make quick decisions, or manage risk.

Good luck with your interview!
