Breakdown on FX Sales
What is this? I genuinely don’t get what they do and why a sales person for currencies is needed. Is this a good career path? What is the outlook given automation and where can you go with it?

Bump. Anyone ?
I do this at an IB. I work corporate FX sales. Large FX options to hedge currency risk can extremely complex and customizeable, and most corporations need a sales person to explain the structure and give advice etc since they dont do this for a living. Currency fluctuations can have large impacts on financial statements and operations. Some companies choose not to hedge, some do hedge. For corps operating in 8 different currencies tho where each currency has a different risk/trend spreads etc they typcially need a bank guiding them.
Spot trading is completely automated and spreads non existent. Forwards and swaps are quite automated and liquid as well. I dont work in institutional FX. Im assuming the buyside trader knows more than the sell side guy and the sell side in that case exists as a pure market maker and the HF is more price sensitive, vs corporae more advice oriented.
Just my take on it. Im very new so i dont have a ton of info.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Are exits more treasury / ops side or macro buy side focused?
