Breaking resistance levels

So this idea occurred to me, and I'm sure it's been thought of before and tried, I'm just wondering if it's a common strategy, and if so what it's called. Basically, say a stock price is bumping up against a clear resistance level (say $40), and you own a bunch of shares which you want to sell at $43. Could you buy a small fraction of the shares you own (10% of the number of shares you own) at 43 dollars ($3 above market price) to help push the price past resistance? If you had enough shares, would this work?

Sorry if this is a stupid question or if this is a common practice, I just can't seem to find anything about it.

Thanks
