Built a market intelligence platform as a Year 13 student, looking for feedback
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in Year 13 in the UK and interested in pursuing Markets, particularly macro/FICC and commodities. I'm applying for degree apprenticeships this cycle, including roles at firms such as Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank.
Over the past few weeks I've built Atlas Intelligence, a market intelligence platform focused on bringing together market data, news and macro information in one place.
The current V1 includes:
- Markets dashboard covering indices, FX, rates and commodities
- Live and historical market data
- AI-generated news summaries with asset tagging
- Morning market brief
- Economic calendar
- Commodities intelligence
- Documentation explaining the project and how it works
- Full GitHub repository
The reason I built it was mainly to develop my understanding of markets while also building something technical. I didn't want to just make a generic stock tracker and put it on my CV.
I'm more interested in broader macro/FICC roles than quant, so I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who actually work in Markets about whether the information and functionality I've chosen are useful from a professional perspective.
A few things I'd particularly like opinions on:
- Does this demonstrate genuine interest in markets, or does it come across mainly as a coding project?
- If you work in S&T, what would you add, remove or change?
- Is there anything about the way I've approached the platform that seems unrealistic compared with how market information is actually used?
- If you were interviewing a student who had built this, what would you want them to understand about the project?
- More generally, is this something worth continuing to develop, or would my time be better spent elsewhere for recruiting?
I'm not looking for compliments. I'm mainly interested in getting honest feedback from people with actual industry experience so I can understand where I've gone right and where I've gone wrong.
(It won't let me add the links to this post, but I can add it in the comments if anyone wishes to take a look!)
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.
