"Business Sentiment" in Financai Markets
Dear All,
I am attempting to measure general business sentiment using financial markets as a general indicator of them. Does anybody know what financial markets would give me the most insight into "market sentiment" or people's general expectations of the economy? Right now I am thinking of the price of gold, S&P 500, and Treasury yields (could someone shed more light on which term-time would be most affected/whether yield curve is affected?) would be good proxies for what I am trying to measure. Does anyone have any suggestions for more assets that might be worth looking at? Any particular derivative markets? Also, does anybody think metrics besides volatility would be worthwhile? Thanks a bunch.
