Buy Side Repo Trading

Hi All,

Searched around the forums and haven’t seen this posted, does anyone have experience or knowledge around repo trading on the buy-side?

I have an opportunity at my company (large asset manager) to move over to the repo desk to trade us govie repos as welll as some developed market FX on the funding side. I have a pretty good idea about some of the main day to day functions and internal exit ops, but wondering what this type of doors this may open down the road.

Lastly, if anyone has any idea about how programming skills would relate to repos, insights would be much appreciated. One thing I was told in particular was to brush up on some SQL skills.

Thanks everyone

dumbasscollegekid - did you eventually moved into the repo desk? If you did it would be great if you could give an idea on the day to day job, what makes a good repo trader and future exits for this type of role. Im in a similar situation as you are so any feedback would be great!
