Career in trading analytics

Posting this because I couldn’t find any other related articles. What does a career in trading analytics (algo execution) look like? What is the comp like? Exit opps? Career growth/longevity?

Background: Got a job in Operations IT (not related to S&T or IB at all) at a Tier-2 bank after my Masters in CS from a target school. Been working here for the past 3 years and had been networking with different desks. It looks like I finally might be able to transition.

The team I’m speaking with does a lot of analytics work (pre/post trade analysis etc), something I really like, given my quantitative background. They mainly use KDB and build tools, reports etc for external clients as well as sales traders, quant traders, sales people etc. Basically, if anyone needs any kind of data, they have to come to this team.

The team members use “Algorithmic Trading Analyst” or “Quant Trading Analyst” or “Trading Analyst” in their titles. And I couldn’t find any threads around these titles. So I’m wondering what a career might look like on this team. Any insights would be great. Thanks!
