tabtheI for a second thought Cash Equities was the name of a desk, like high yield is in FI, and now am aware that it is a category which encompasses a lot of desks like Risk Arbitrage and TMT.

What are some other desks under the cash equities category?

It is considered a desk like HY in FI, and then broken down so 1/2 people do a sector. You have consumers, industrials, TMT etc. Risk arb only has sales coverage (not an actual trading desk on the flow side of things).

I know two Risk Arb trading desks full of traders that trade. Can you please explain what you mean about the desks only having sales?

Risk arb desks trade but its purely execution or market making. The strategy as far as putting deals on taking positions really is much better suited for the buyside. You can PM me about it if you have a specific question risk arb.
