Cass Shipping Trade & Finance
Hello everyone,
I want to pursue a master's degree in September to crack into shipping/energy.
I have been accepted to the Cass STF master but I wanna know If It worths the heavy investment (£ 26.5K + Life and acommodation in London).
I want to get a good job in London after it but I'm not sure if It will help or not.
Someone could provide some advice?

Cass's Shipping programme has got a strong brand and reputation. I've heard positive things about the programme from students (although not studied it myself). Cass will also give you the exposure / networking opportunities to secure a role. So in that sense, I think the education is strong and it will offer you the exposure to go chase what you want to chase (this latter part is all about you and how you network/interview). I think most seem to get roles abroad though as the class is really international.

I studied at Cass a few years ago - personally I would recommend it but I understand the huge outlay upfront (I lived at home). There are lots of rich kids who are just doing it for the brand or their family are in the Shipping/Energy business but the networking is excellent and the top performers had impressive jobs even before graduation in some cases. For me - my CV lacked any form of shipping or trading evidence so it was a great place to learn about this and demonstrate to employers that I was serious about Commodities and shipping. I currently work in a prop trading house as an Analyst and without my time at Cass I would not have even made it to the interview stage.
Thanks for the answer mate. I am not rich. My parents could make an effort and pay it but I wanna make sure It really worths. Would you do It if you were in my shoes?
I cannot really give you a definite answer I am afraid. It is a good course and it can be very helpful to break into the shipping or energy industry but financially it is draining. If I am honest - with COVID currently rife in London and no guarantee that lectures or tutorials will be back in person by the time you start it may not be worth it as you would miss out on the high quality teaching and library resources etc. I highly doubt they would reduce the course if that was the case.
There were lots of people who has worked for a few years and then gone back to do the course - the average age was probably around 26/27 so it could be worth revisiting in a few years with some savings. I am sure you have but they definitely run some scholarship schemes that could be worth looking into.
I had an offer for the Energy program but in the end opted out of it since I got a last-minute offer to start working somewhere (I do have a strong engineering background). Don't believe the price is worth it for online classes and stuff but don't see why that should be the case next year.
