Citi S&T Internship Networking

I have an internship in the Citi Markets (S&T) division for this upcoming summer. I'm wondering how group placement works and if I should network for certain desks. Is that commonplace, or do they just randomly place me?

For Citi its horrible. You dont get to choose and they give you an overall choice (liquid products, structured products) and they assign you a desk. Also because you rotate again for full time.

So then there is no need to network (or no point)?
