Citi VS DB Offer
Citi VS DB sales and trading internship. Wondering if anyone has any input on which to choose. I know Citi is better in terms of rankings but DB is better for alumni for me

Career Resources
In term of S&T desks I would personally pick Citi. However if you know the guys at Deutsche better than I'd go with them. PM me.

Do you have any asset classes you are specifically interested? Might want to think about that
As of now, rates or FX. Something macro.
Do Citi for SA, get returning FT (if you don't fall back on DB Alum) go through your analyst stint and either lateral or get MBA and leverage your Alumni base at DB for recruiting.
DB should be your safety net if you have a great alumni base
what's the point of lateraling into DB i I could just go there now and spend the majority of my early career there?
After the associate level, you can jump to DB for a bigger pay increase than staying another firm. If you spend your whole life at one firm the pay increases are slow and the standard 3%. you can jump from firm to firm for 15%-20% increases
Citi in a heartbeat. Try to get on the syndicate desk, it's the gold standard in FI S&T.
Go where you think there's growth potential. If there's more alumni at DB, you'll be able to learn so much from them. In the end, college alumni always help out the most
DB IBD vs Citi S&T (Originally Posted: 10/20/2016)
Summer analyst position junior year for both. Prefer IBD but also prefer Citi's culture. Worried about future of DB. Any advice would help.
This is fundamentally a IB vs. S&T issue if you plan on staying long-term. Job should drive decision, and not a choice between two BBs.
If you plan on recruiting FT though, I think DB IB gives you a more cohesive story for FT recruiting than Citi S&T.
This is correct -- this is not a choice between Citi vs. DB -- this is IBD vs. S&T.
Personally, I think IBD is the better choice. S&T is dying quickly.
DB IBD, not even close. If you take Citi S&T your lateral chances will be extremely limited, while DB is still a good name and you will have the ability to switch after your summer.
So it wouldn't be a good idea to intern in Citi S&T and hope to be able to interview and switch over to Citi IBD at the end of my summer? Was thinking maybe internal mobility might be easier than coming from another bank
Citi is in much better shape, both in market momentum and capital requirements. Not sure DB is even in much of a position to make full-time offers. The last 18 months have not been kind to DB.
That said, as someone who has done both banking and S&T, I can assure you they are different PLANETS, even within the same firm.
Between the two, if you don't do S&T NOW, you will probably NEVER have a chance again. IBD is a perennial option at the MBA level if you can't break in as an analyst (but breaking in as an analyst is pretty much essential if you want to do PE).
Yeah, I spoke with the recruiter at DB and the hiring freeze doesn't seem to affect the analyst level.
But to get the other point of view, what made you decide to go from S&T to IBD?
