what does it take to get a job in global macro trading? Are groups selected the same as ibanks (ie preferenced based) or is it differenent?

I didnt realize i wanted to do trading.. i already signed an internship with a bank for the summer. If anyone can provide me with any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I go to a public target, and it seems as if sales and trading positions arent advertised at all here. They never have any info sessions for S&T, only for banking. It might be the fact that we are located on the west, and according to my friend most S&T jobs are in NY.

there are global macro HF's (Bridgewater, tudor, are probly the major example). i think these funds primarily recruit out of ivy schools, though i could be mistaken. barring you work at a smaller fund, the best bet is to get into rates or FX trading in s/t at a bank. those are popular desks within a bank, and placement often is related to having a good rapport w/ the desk during your training rotation and having good test scores from the training program, etc. this is tough tho w/o a summer internship in the field...your best bet is just to network aggressively and be as persistent as possible.
