Entering Commodities Trading from Operations Background

Good evening,

I am writing to ask this forum for some career advice. Currently, I work for a supermajor oil & gas company doing a variety of operations/procurement-focused roles, however I am looking to potentially move into commodities trading, leveraging my oil & gas supply chain experience and knowledge of the markets. While I do not like my current role with my employer, I enjoy working in a capacity supporting the oil & gas industry.

I am interested if anyone has experience or connections that have moved from supply chain/logistical roles or back office positions into energy trading. I am thinking of ways how I can build my story (i.e., how I can “sell” my diverse background).

Thanks in advance!

It is pretty common route to enter into commodities trading from an operation background. Your operational experience will be appreciated in the physical space.
