Finding reputable headhunters

To the fellow prop traders on the board, how do you go about finding reputable headhunters for searching for opportunities in different markets and regions? Interested in companies that work with candidates with upwards from 3yrs+ of experience, I'm looking to transition to a different region (US) within the same asset class (equity vol). My experience with headhunters who've contacted me within my own region has been very mixed, is one generally better off working through headhunters in US markets or would I be better off doing my own research and cold contacting firms I think would suit my skill set?
