From Minerals Operations to Commodities S&T. Doable?

I've heard from quite a few, some on here, that getting into commodities S&T is often about networking and quite doable from extraction managers/mining types. Any credence to this claim? Post MBA, perhaps?

Seems pretty logical, because a lot of S&T is knowing thy product, and extraction professionals with an MBA seem pretty much spot-on for that.

Opinions? Lets get some discussion in here.
