From Sales (Gartner) to finance/working for a BB?
I have recently started my career at Gartner as an Account Manager (MSE). Do you think it might be possible to make a transition into finance, a couple years down the road? Possibly into a BB and doing something which could be related to my current work experience. Also open to the idea of considering an MBA, should it be the only plausible way.

I guess it depends what exactly you want to do at a BB. I noticed JPMorgan has relationship partner openings for IB which your current experience would play into. There’s other client facing roles that you could apply for as well it might just not be an Investment Banking Analyst, Associate, etc.

Well, something front-office and which pays well lol. I like that idea, relationship partner sounds appropriate for my personality/experience. How about institutional sales?
For sure. I thought about mentioning that. That’s definitely another route. Being that an Account Manager can mean different things depending on the company, I’d note that it’s valuable if you have experience meeting and/or exceeding quotas. If you can drive that home when you prospect folks at the BBs, you should be able to achieve some success.

Having made a similar transition (from enterprise software sales to front office S&T), I’d say your best shot is networking and then applying to an off-cycle programme that converts into an analyst start date a couple months later
Ahh so you'd advise starting out from an off-cycle internship again? I guess that's always a path. But being in my mid twenties, I don't know if it would be worth it to start an entry level again a year or two from now.
By the way, what about going for an MBA a few years down the line, potentially? Is that a common approach to transitioning into finance?
