Help with finding a thesis

I'm trying to find a thesis for my masters degree in engineering. Don't get confused because it's an engineering degree. I'm studying marine engineering and there is a department of maritime transport. Given that I want to go into commodities trading (physical) later on what would you recommend? What topic would help me the most later on? Any idea is welcome!

Thank you

But what would the exact topic be? Logistics of rare earths? World supply of rare earths? Maritime transport of rare earths? Keep in mind that I am studying marine engineering

That's the whole point of a thesis buddy. You research a topic, you know it well, you find out what people are currently researching, and you try to contribute to the overall knowledge in your particular field with your thesis. Since you're doing a Master's and not a Ph.D you probably don't have to do any real original research, but it's up to you to find a topic based on whatever you're interested in.

My thesis topic changed about 15 times in 2 months. Start researching and learning about a topic and see if you're interested in researching and learning more. Then write a thesis. If you like rare earth metals, go for it. If you don't, don't. If you want to research laws constraining use of high sulfur diesel fuels, go ahead. If you want to do a research topic on grain elevators, then do it. Whatever floats your fancy. A thesis is supposed to be about something you enjoy and want to do research on. The starting point is reading as much about as many things as you can until you find something that interests you.

You should really talk to a thesis advisor at your school. It doesn't sound like you know much about what's going on.

Find a developing technology in marine shipping that pertains to the industry and write on that. My background is energy so here are my two cents:

Write about the boom/bust cycle of tanker development.

Or about the logistics of canal shipping (Suezmax vs. Panamax vs new Panamax).

Or why there is an upper limit on tanking size (ULCC supertankers Seawise Giant, etc).

Or the longterm viability of offshore terminals in hurricane prone areas (LOOP, Excelerate's Gulf Gateway).

Or for that matter, extreme weather impacts on shore terminals.

Just a few ideas.

She's studying Economics; the thesis is ongoing so nothing set yet... I dont think ree's is related to shipping as there isnt that much volume in terms of tonnage. JTizzle proposed great potential topics. You could derive the proposed oil tanker topic on the ever-rising increase in TEU's on container ships. Maybe talk about the oversupply of ships and its affect on world freight rates? So much stuff.. Just pick up the financial times and read the energy section during a week, u'll have plenty of ideas there
