How do you decide what career path is best for you?

Currently trying to decide what career path is best for me. After doing some research I've taken an interest in IBD, ECM/DCM, ER, Trading & Structuring. Obviously I know this covers quite a wide range of jobs so I was wondering the best way to narrow this list down so I can target my applications. Thanks

As you said, these fields all differ a fair amount despite being finance-related. Only you can narrow that list down. Continue doing research or consider applying to banks with rotational programs that allow you to find where your interests lie as you work and gain experience.

A few criteria to consider when comparing fields: your general interest, risk of the career path (I'd say some fields listed are riskier as a career path than others...), compensation, future of the industry (ER - not very bright), lifestyle (some desks in S&T start their days at 6am...not for everyone), etc.
