How does S&T benefit society?

I am currently writing a personal statement for an MBA program and want to incorporate ways that S&T helps benefit society but cannot think of anything compelling. Do any of you have any ideas how I can incorporate values into a S&T personal statement?

People say liquidity and that’s true as well. If you knew you had to hold an asset until maturity or expiration or whatever you might not want to take that risk, but it’s a lot easier to participle in an ipo or debt financing if you if you can sell it whenever you want so it’s easier for a larger number of people to obtain financing which again grows the economy

If I’m a cfo and I’m in oil business I have to hold a lot of capital just for a rainy day when I don’t know what my revenue will be and forget expansion. But when you can eliminate uncertainty in your business you unlock value
