how long to wait til being contacted for an interview

When you send in a resume to places like DRW, Susquehanna, Wolverine (so not the big investment banks), how long usually should one expect to wait before being contacted for a phone interview? If you don't hear anything for a week, is it safe to assume that your application was considered and denied? Would it be worth it to send an email asking about the status of your application?

Thanks!

yourdreamtheaterDuring my interviews with a top Chicago prop group, I was contacted the day after for every stage (including the offer)
What does that have to do with the original question posted?

Sorry for the confusion. The original question was about how long it usually takes to hear back about a first round interview. From my experiences, these prop shops get back to prospective interviewers extremely quickly (i.e. 1 day turnaround) about first rounds, so I'd move on if it's been a week. However, things may be different at the place you applied to, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to contact someone.

Sorry -- I didn't mean to sound like a d-bag

It can vary on several factors: are you applying to an actual position or just submitting your resume, was the position just posted or up for a while, do you have any bank contacts or going in cold, etc.

Essentially, not hearing back in a week is not a big deal, unless you are applying to a specific posting with a deadline that has just passed (after you submitted, I mean). In that case, send a follow-up email.

Additionally, feel free to reach out to a banker as well, and try to get a push from the inside - check out this article for more: http://www.bankonbanking.com/2010/10/04/career-services-following-up-re…

Thanks for the replies everyone; and yourdreamtheater, no problem! I knew what you meant.

To BankonBanking, you're right, I left out some key factors. What I applied to was a summer internship at a trading firm through my school's career services website. The posted deadline is late January, with on-campus interviews scheduled for February.

Since the posted deadline isn't for a while, I'll just leave this application alone for now.

Oh! Well that completely changes it. Don't expect to hear anything until a few days after the deadline. For on-campus stuff, recruiters want to judge all possible applicants against each other so they don't send out invites before the deadline.
