How much is job security worth: BlackRock vs. S&T at a BB

So times are difficult and I think now, more than ever, we need to factor in the possibility of actually getting hired after the internship.

Considering two internships: BlackRock (outside of PMG) and S&T at a BB (possibly one that is going through a merger)...

I hear that BlackRock traditionally makes full time offers to their entire internship class. Coupled with the fact that the S&T position is very volatile right now, this decision has become very difficult since S&T has been the "dream job".

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, you sound like a complete pussy, so why don't you just take the blackrock job?

Really, what are you looking for here? You know that you have a better shot at landing a full time with the blackrock job. You also know that s+t is your dream job. No one here can tell you if you should follow your heart or your head, that's up to you. If you're as risk averse as you sound, just take the blackrock offer and sleep better at night. then spend your summer wondering 'what if...?'

ditto to jay.

fuck job security. you are in your early twenties. so what if you lose your job a year down the road? chase your dreams when you are young. worry about job security when you are old. now if only i can convince myself of the same.

Don't listen to people that say "fuck job security." They most likely don't have bills to pay. Job security should matter to a degree, but you must also be happy. You don't want to join a sinking ship, but you also don't want to go somewhere simply becuase it's safe. My advice is that if you want the S&T job, go for it. Just be sure to live within your means for a little while (i.e. don't run up tons of debt going to clubs and other such nonsense). If you're smart about your money and save up while you work, you should be ok.

Ok you three guys who say fuck job security, fuck you. You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. In this environment if you lose your job you are fucked.

Take the Blackrock job. Banks are done with trading and you aren't going to get paid anyways. I don't know who would want to work at a BB bank in this shitty environment.

needingopinionbanking are actually making a killing on the trading floors... the more volatile the market, the more money they make...

And getting paid 3% or less of book while shutting down groups.
