IB to equities trading desk

Tried finding any past post on bankers making the move to trading and all I can find is trading to banking. Has anyone experienced making the move to trading from banking? I always wanted to do trading, I ended up in banking (only option I had or unemployment) that was 3 years ago and I really have been trying to stick it out as a few traders have told me I’m better off. I hate banking and it’s just not for me. It’s my personal preference to try to get into what I’ve always wanted which is trading.

Anyone have any insights / stories on how it can be done?

I’m in a similar position. Always was interested in S&T. Dealing with companies in IB, I’m naturally most comfortable and inclined towards the equities trading deal. However, I’ve always seen on posts that equities trading is not a good desk but never really understood why. Would you be able to explain or direct me to ressources where I can read up on to understand why?
