Moving from Electronic Trading Coverage to a Risk-Taking Seat?

Hi all, I’m currently looking for some advice on career mobility within S&T. I'm sitting in an electronic trading coverage / execution seat at a BB (GS/MS/JPM) right now and trying to map out my long-term career path. My ultimate goal is to transition into a risk-taking seat, whether that's internally or externally at a prop shop or hedge fund.

Since my current role is agency and non-risk-taking, I'm trying to get a realistic sense of how viable this move actually is. Do people typically pull this off by networking internally with flow traders and making a lateral move within the same bank? Or is it more common to try and jump straight into a junior trader or execution-to-risk pipeline at a prop firm or multi-manager?

I'm also curious about the perception of the electronic skillset right now. I know not managing risk is a knock against you, but is the market structure and algorithmic exposure seen as a valuable asset by risk-taking desks, or does starting in electronic coverage just pigeonhole you as a tech/sales guy?

Would really appreciate any insights, harsh realities, or advice from anyone who has successfully made the jump from an execution or coverage role into a seat where you are actually managing your own book. Thanks!
