IMC Financial Markets - Opinions?

Question

What is everyone's opinion on IMC? Is this a good time to join? How's the compensation + bonus at this firm for a trader? Currently interviewing with them.

Akuna is very similar to Optiver though. The founders of Akuna were all partners at Optiver. Unless you mean Citadel/DRW/Optiver are more well known - which I agree with. However, with prop trading I don't think name matters much.

One thing I noticed is IMC had ~90 million in distributable fixed + variable bonuses in 2016, compared to Optiver's 320 million. IMC has about 1/2 to 2/3 of the employees, but the profit/employee is still significantly lower.

In terms of selectivity, IMC/Optiver/DRW are on the same tier. Citadel and Jane Street are on a whole different tier. In terms of the technical difficulty of the interviews, Two Sigma, DE Shaw, Citadel, and Jane Street, are probably the toughest finance interviews out there.

IMC and Optiver are very good at equity options. DRW is more fixed income/currencies/commodities oriented and also making a big move in cryptocurrency.

Low-latency trading is not the same as high-frequency trading. I worked at a low-latency trading firm that did NOT engage in HFT. A high-frequency firm will by nature also be a low-latency firm, but a low-latency firm does not necessarily have to engage in HFT.
