inherit dads CA practice of 400K net or go for quant degree for trading
Hi, This is a very weird question. I majored in statistics and finance amd worked as a quant and then as an actuary for like 2 years. I am also going for a top MFE degree and hope to get a role in quant or structuring.
However I am having real changes of thought. My dad has a developed CA practice of 400K with potential for not too much growth anymore so its almost capped out at this point. Basically he can take 200-300K net a year after taxes because he can play around with taxes. He has been urging me to consider joining. I never paid it much thought but I am seriously wondering if its the saner route. Downside is Ill have to sit for CA exams do 2 years of training and I have never been a fan of the 3 accounting courses I had to take in college.

For godsakes take the family (PWM?) practice over. It's guaranteed money and employment. While doing it here are some skills you should learn: networking, sales, relationship building, researching investment ideas, basic investing math. While doing this job, you can evaluate whether it's for you and you can choose to keep or sell your book of business. On the side you test your hobby of quant trading or even incorporate it in your practice for your some of clients and develop a track record (I think you can do this for accredited investors?)
Its an accounting practice but its basically save as much of the clients money as you can.
