Investment Challenge Stock Picks
So I'm participating in an Investment Challenge at my school and we've been given $100,000 to invest in an equities only portfolio that will be tracked over a 30-day period starting on Monday. Below I've listed what we've chosen for our picks and I was just curious as to what you guys think about our selections. Check it out and give me some feedback.
BTW- We were only allowed to allocate our money thru percentages so I'll put the percentage allocation next to each ticker and the price as of yesterday's close.
Apple (AAPL):__________________________19.0% ($95.00 @200) Yucheng Technologies (YTEC):____________7.5% ($7.51 @1000) Intel Corp (INTC):______________________7.0% ($14.01 @500) Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY):_____________4.2% ($21.45 @200) McDonald's (MCD): _____________________21.0% ($60.87 @350) Emerson Electric (EMR): ________________3.2% ($31.95 @100) Altria (MO):____________________________3.0% ($15.02 @200) Wal-Mart (WMT): _______________________21.0% ($54.79 @400) Johnson & Johnson (JNJ):_______________11.0% ($58.79 @200)
I like it! Lots of economic goodwill in these companies. That's where I would have my money if I had to put it in stocks.
You only have 30 days so I'd definitely pick up companies with a decent amount of vol. Can you go long only? If you're adventurous you might want to try a play on an auto bailout... perhaps Ford or Chrysler since it looks like GM would go bankrupt first.
given the 30 days time horizon, don't pick stocks based on fundamentals but on trading potentials
i hate these fake stock competitions. maybe i just hate plain equities or something
with above posters (not titanboxer). you should definitely go for more volatile stocks if you want to win. i would suggest picking up an auto, some financial stocks, maybe DIG or DUG which are ultralong and ultrashort oil and gas...just a few suggestions, good luck...
If you're allowed to use ETF and you want some vol, take a look at SKF and UYG. They are ultra short and ultra long, respectively, the financials. No doubt they will be big time movers this week with GS (and MS?) reporting earnings.
