Is it common to lateral after 1st year?

I'm currently in a trading floor but am interested in moving over to ECM

Aside from whatever reservations there might be about ECM, how feasible do you think is requesting a move internally to ECM after my 1st year?

My biggest concern is how to approach the conversation with the internal mobility team. I know they'll probably push back and encourage me to finish my analyst years but I rather get a head start.

Have you seen moves after 1 year within the trading floor or towards ECM/DCM? Or to any other group?

Heard it isn't uncommon at my bank for analysts to get shifted to other groups after 1 year if the team thinks you're not a good fit. But that's more performance/fit based and an alternative to firing you.

Thanks

I work in a delta one trading desk. Want to move over to the private side, namely IB. But think ECM can serve as a bridge to make that transition happen given that i'm in a markets facing role.

I would get a bit more exposure to fundamental analysis and the type of pitch work done in IB in general, thus giving experience to sell myself to coverage groups with more credibility than i otherwise would have. I refuse to go the MBA route when I have the opportunity to do internal mob and not spend $150k + 2 years.
