Is Physical Commodity Expeirence Valued in Prop Trading?
If I wanted to apply for an internship at a prop shop such as DRW/Akuna/Jump, would these prop shops see value in someone who has experience working at a commodity trading house? I know that the two are completely different animals but I am still in my undergrad studying statistics.
This fall I will be starting at Trafigura and was wondering if experience in physicals would be enough to get an interview at a prop shop such as the ones mentioned above.
Also, has anyone ever seen or heard of anyone who has switched from physical commodity trading to prop trading?
Most people I’ve seen go from physical commodities to prop trading stay within their commodity. For example, many people go from physical desks to Citadel’s physical business. The firms you mentioned are largely market makers which is fundamentally different. However, they could have smaller groups with parallel skills.
Citadel has a physical business? Any idea what locations/commodities?
They have teams in Houston, Chicago, and Stamford. They trade oil, gas, and maybe more.

They trade paper for most commodities I believe.
Internship at a prop shop? Weren't you intervieiwng for the Traf apprentice program?
