Junior Sell-Side Trader
What's it really like to be a junior trader on the sell side? I currently do some execution trading but am thinking about making a jump. What sort of skills and traits are necessary to succeed?

Career Resources
Very shop dependent. At BB’s you have a lot of influence and responsibilities because you carry such a large BS. At a smaller shop you’re less important bc your value add as a shop is your research and salesforce.
At a BB how much leash do you have? Are the systems today doing all the calculations or do you still need to calculate stuff like DV01 etc in your head?
the math is all calc'd on BBG, what will be more important is understanding your aggregate risk and catalysts to cause sharp changes in whatever assets are on your BS at any time.
What desks?
Rates or credit
Are these two the best desks? And do these two require high mathematical skills? Thanks
Best desk is prop trading desk. You can have your cut even as a junior trader. But US doesn’t have prop trading desk anymore. You may consider move to London, Hong Kong, or Singapore.
