Lay off probation period

I am 27 and I got noticed that my contract will be terminated at the end of my probation period of 6 months (standard here in Europe). The position was my first job as a fixed Income Trader. It is clearly not a performance issue as I didn't get the chance to trade at all and I was left without any tasks to do most of the day. When I was hired I was told that I have to work with a senior trader. However without any reason since the first day I joined this trader totally ignores me an didn't integrate me at all to the team. I was not even sitting close to him. In addition to that there was already another junior trader working with him. After 3 month in the manager told me that they would make a choice between me and the other junior on the team. At this point I knew it was tossed because no one was talking to me in the team, I didn't get the chance to show my skills as it took 3 month for me to get the Access to trade and After that they didn't want me to trade. Honestly I don't understand whey they hired me. maybe a lack of fit to the team as I recognize that I am not the most open person but its the first Time I got a professional expérience like that ( i did 1 year internship before that went good). Anyway I am really worried because I am looking for a New job in quant/trading since two month and didn't get any interview (actually I got informal interviews but they weren't really looking for somone). The end of my probation period is approching and I am really anxious about having to justify the fact that they fired me. I already have a one year gap on my CV After graduation from a top university in Europe and I am afraid that I will struggle a lot to find another job. Any advice and support are welcome Thanks

First of all, I wanna say you have my sympathies - being terminated is never easy.

I'm a Junior as well so I might be wrong, but I find it surprising that you're having issues getting interviews when you're still actively working a trading job. How long do you have left before your termination? This time will be really precious because you'll still be able to sell yourself as a guy with a job who's just "shopping around".

Also, are you working in the buy-side or sell-side? How well-known is your firm? You might get better luck by targeting firms that are a step below yours in prestige (e.g. try applying for MM banks if you're in a BB).

Anyways, I hope everything will work out in the end!

Hey mate thanks for your support !

I am looking for a New position since mid December and my contract will be terminated at the end of this month. The bank I work in is not a BB its a mid tier bank in France.I work in a MM trading desk. Since December I only had one interview for a BB but for a quant/developper position which was not really suited for my experiences and skills, didn't make it to the second round despite answering well to the technical questions (the Guy Told me that they used java to code but I only code in Python). I try to approach cold in LinkedIn without any success for now. I am starting to loose Hope as I don't know what to do. I m worried because the situation will be worse once my contact is terminated. Do you think its a good Idea to get pro email on Bloomberg and then apply cold by email ?

Thanks
