Sales-traders yes. I can easily see how they could be in charge of monitoring several different products, kind of like a special situations desk, where they can trade derivs, cash equities, converts, options, etc...and find arb opps between them.
I interviewed with a guy in the group a while back and I'm still not entirely sure... I just know it is in equities, more of a buyside-ish role coming up with alpha-generating ideas for clients, and acts as a "filter" somehow.

I have no fucking idea what that means. Aplha team to me naturally sounds like a prop group, but that doesnt make any sense for numerous reasons.
