MS Finance in EU / UK

Hi guys,

I wonder if there is any color on the current year's recruiting for MSc this year. i.e. whats the recruitment like in HEC / BOCC / LSE / LBS / IMPE MFin / MFA?

As a final year undergrad, is any of the above programme good to go into not just IB, but also research / trading roles?

Appreciate any input!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Recruitment Strengths:

    • LSE MSc Finance: Known for its strong placement in Investment Banking (IB) and sometimes Private Equity (PE). It has a solid reputation for research and trading roles as well.
    • LBS MFA: Career-focused with excellent placement across the finance spectrum, including IB, research, and trading. It's a newer program but has gained significant traction.
    • HEC MIF: Great placement in IB and PE, particularly in France and London. However, it is traditionally more financial markets/instruments-oriented, which aligns well with trading roles.
    • Bocconi MSc Finance: Similar to HEC but more dominant in Italy. It has strong IB placement and is a good option for research and trading roles.
    • Imperial MFin: Slightly less competitive than LSE or LBS but still offers good placement opportunities in IB and trading.
  2. Program Focus:

    • If you're targeting IB, all the mentioned programs are strong choices.
    • For research and trading roles, LSE, HEC, and Bocconi stand out due to their focus on financial markets and instruments.
  3. Networking and Alumni:

    • LSE and LBS have a broader international network, which can be advantageous for roles outside Europe.
    • HEC and Bocconi have strong regional networks, particularly in France and Italy, respectively.
  4. Final Advice:

    • If you're aiming for a mix of IB, research, and trading roles, prioritize LSE MSc Finance or LBS MFA for their versatility and global recognition.
    • HEC and Bocconi are excellent for financial markets and trading but may require more effort to break into non-European markets.

Good luck with your decision!
