Networking with a recently laid off director

Hi All,

A director at a desk I am interested in was recently laid off, largely because of some restructuring at my BB. However, I am quite keen on that desk area, and if that Director has joined another bank, I would really like to follow up and check for opportunities. He was good and as the layoffs were only because of restructuring, I think he can get a job at another place.

But I don't have his personal email id and don't know of his plans either - I have his mobile number, and am wondering if it will be appropriate to send him a text message or give him a call. I knew him from his desk and had chatted with him a few times, so he will remember me for sure. I can probably also get his personal email from someone else at his old desk - but how should I write to him that I heard about his getting fired, and if he has got another job, will he want someone else to join him?

Any suggestions?
