Networking with IBD for S&T

I'm a sophomore and I'm from Hong Kong. I go to a target school and I have recently begun networking so that I can get an internship in Hong Kong this coming summer at a bulge bracket hopefully. The problem is that most of my school's alumni at bulge brackets in Hong Kong work in IB and I'm interested only in S&T.

Would it leave a bad impression if I start asking S&T related questions to these IB folk? Also, is it alright for me to ask them to refer me to someone in S&T at their office?

If it works anything like the US there will be a chinese wall (no offense) between IBD and S&T. Chances are your IBD friends won't know anyone in trading and won't be able to be of much help.
