Official Desk Dynamics

I am trying to compile a list of the best flow desks for certain personality types and aspirations. Anybody with any kind of inside knowledge feel free to weigh in.

  1. Most earnings potential
  2. Greatest product expansion (which products are growing the fastest)
  3. Desks that will not be automated and hence be around for a while
  4. The "wild west" of desks -the craziest around.
  5. Most hours
  6. Least hours
  7. Most quant
  8. IBD level quant
  9. Frattiest desks with the most characters

Disclaimer: non-Prop. This is judging on my summer on the floor of one of these desks+ close friends in the biz

  1. Commodities i.e. Nat Gas & Emissions (not in terms of a Sharpe ratio tho); Structured Credit (it can be flow); Distressed
  2. Structured Credit again; Equity derivs
  3. Emerging Market Debt; Distressed
  4. CDS; High-Yield; Rates options (not too sure about that)
  5. Mortgage Trading (maybe not secondary)
  6. Cash Equities; EM
  7. Equity Structured Volatility; Algorithmic desks (again, not too sure since it could just be automated); exotic credit/ exotic rates;
  8. everything else basically, give or take a couple
  9. High Yield; equity trading; the funniest guys i met were in EM and CDS cash.

there's probably a huge difference of opinion, but this is how i interpreted it.
