Opinions on Trading Assistant Role

Hello, a recruiter recently reached out for a role as Trading Assistant at a $4B aum distressed fund where I would be working under the head of trading and head of ops. Based on this description, does this seem like a FO role where I will be working under the PM and eventually being able to grow myself into a Trading role? I'm currently a 2nd year FI trading analyst at a bank and my long-term goal is to become a PM at some point. I will of course ask the recruiter this question as well but just to get some extra views.

Thanks and lmk if anyone needs any extra clarification. Also, apologies if this is poorly written, I am really rushing this.

50/50 really it could go either way depending on what the firm sees as the future of the role.

My advice would be to be upfront about future expectations in the interviews. Discuss your interest in the more FO related portion of the role, finding liquidity in the markets. Maybe even ask about future expectations that the firm/PM has for the role. I wouldn’t say that you want to be a PM though, that’s a bit aggressive.

Source: recently moved on from a TA role that did NOT have FO opportunity into a similar trading position in a firm that has clearly indicated to me that they do see this is a future.
