Opting out of streets after 7 months for more schooling

Will be completing Masters Elec Eng this Fall at big name U. Looking to go into trading @ BB starting January, but strong possibility of going to PhD by start of next fall (august?). Anybody know about employment term contracts or length of commitment? Could I not say anything about potential departure at time of employment, and when time comes, break the nut to MD?

Hoping to work until bonus comes around, then get out of streets, and live a grad life (at least the start of it) in high rise apartments sipping on DRC.

If you never want to work at that firm again, then sure go ahead and surprise the MD with news that you're leaving.

Why would you want to go to grad school after getting a spot on a desk... what's the point? You'd likely not even get to do anything really meaningful yet.

Defer your PhD admit by 1year or maybe 2. Give your trading gig a chance for a period of more than at-least a year. Some grad schools will allow you to defer PhD admits if you make a compelling case.

If you succeed at at your trading job, drop the going back to school idea. If you realize the PhD thing's better for you, go back to school and take the experience, perspectives, and $ with you.
