Personal Investing as a Corp Dev Employee
In corp dev at a publicly listed company, fairly active in M&A and VC and would like to start making some Long/Short trades. What are the do's and don'ts here? I'm not at PE/VC firm so I didn't need any licenses (I have FINRA licenses but they're inactive since I don't work in IB anymore) and am not required to submit trades.I obviously know what insider trading is, but are there any other restrictions for me? Can I use CapIQ, Pitchbook, Tegus and other corporate apps to do personal investment research? If my team is doing a deep dive into early stage construction software, am I still allowed to buy and sell stock in companies we aren't directly talking to and have no plans to invest in?
I didn't have any formal restrictions when I was in corp dev, but FWIW, it was made clear to me that investing in my sector was frowned upon.
