Pivoting out of Sales & Trading?
I'm currently about to be 3 years into my FX Sales job with a pretty big global bank. After 3 years, I've realized I've given it enough time and I hate it. I hate dealing with the public markets and dealing with clients on a daily basis. I also commute 2 hours each way. It was my first offer out of college and the pay was good so I took it. I'm so burned out and now I'm trying to pivot out into Corporate Finance (FP&A or Corp Development), but I feel like all the skills I've learned in S&T are so niche and I'm kind of pigeonholed. Has anyone made the successful switch and if so, any advice?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from Sales & Trading (S&T) to Corporate Finance roles like FP&A or Corporate Development is possible, but it requires a strategic approach to highlight transferable skills and address potential gaps. Here’s how you can position yourself effectively:
1. Leverage Transferable Skills
2. Address the Gaps
3. Tailor Your Resume
4. Networking
5. Consider Intermediate Steps
6. Be Persistent
While the transition may seem daunting, many professionals have successfully pivoted from S&T to Corporate Finance by focusing on transferable skills, addressing gaps, and leveraging their network.

2 hours both way has to add to the dislike, any chance you could cut it down?
Yea it's pretty brutal...basically have no time to myself during the week. But I can't cut it down at the moment. I'm living at home right now. I'm getting into real estate investing and bought a house nearby where I live that I'm currently fixing up. Until I start renting it out, no shot I can afford a mortgage and rent. I'm really looking for a hybrid job where I only have to do 2-3 days in office. That would be such a life-saver.
