Prop Trading Vacations

Hi everyone,

I’m starting a new role in a Chicago Quant firm (Optiver, Akuna, Belvedere, IMC, etc) and have a very generous 4 week of weeks vacation for my first year. I was wondering if it’s similar to banking where I won’t actually really be able to take all of my vacation or if it’s generally more relaxed for the quant traders?

Thanks!

OP here — Yeah I’m pro-rated through the end of year from my start date too. My main question is regarding like the first 12 months is it actually feasible to take a week off 2-3 times to actually use up my vacation days or if it’s frowned upon to actually use it up.

I always see the banking vacation posts where Analysts get 2 weeks technically but the assumption is that you’re not going to really use it, so I was hoping it would be different since I’m in QT.
