Quant Exits

I'm a math nerd and was wondering what the world of finance has to offer. What are the differences between Buyside Quants vs Sellside Quants vs Prop Traders. What kind of exits are there afterwards? From what I gathered it seems the sellside is probably the most secure but the lowest paying (least prestige too I guess?) and the buy side seems to be mostly populated by PhDs with a few exceptional undergrads (I'm good but definitely not exceptional). For any of you that have experience with/know/are quants what would y'all say are the main day to day differences and where have you seen people go on afterwards? Thanks.
