Sales & Trading Internship Preparation

I wanted to start this conversation as it might be useful to other students that have landed a 2026 summer internship position in S&T or adjacent market facing roles. With a little over a month until many of these summer analyst programs begin, what could I be doing to better prepare myself to hit the ground running when I step onto the trading floor? There are many individuals on this forum with years of experience in the industry so I am sure that someone has valuable advice to offer. Aside from keeping up with the markets and finishing out the semester strong, what are some helpful tips to prepare for the role? Is there anything about working in markets that you were not expecting or caught you off-guard when you first began as an intern/analyst? How did you adjust to the change in sleep schedule and intense daily routine? What should we expect in our first few days/weeks in this role? How does product placement and desk assignment typically work? As a side note, I will be working in commodities but i'm sure much of the advice could translate across products.
