Should I take this course?
Object-Oriented Programming I 3 hours; 3 credits
This course emphasizes an object oriented approach to solving computer programming problems. Using these techniques leads to shorter system development life cycles, increased programmer productivity, code reusability, and reduced system maintenance costs. This course provides a thorough, practical knowledge of object-oriented programming methods. Students learn the principles underlying programming using a language such as C++. This is the first part of two semester sequence. No prior knowledge of computer programming is required.
Object-Oriented Programming II 3 hours; 3 credits
This is the second semester of a two-course sequence in object oriented programming. This course covers advanced object- oriented programming constructs needed to implement software systems. Standard objects ranging from low level data structures, such as a linked list, to high level graphical user interface objects, such as Windows, are examined on abstract through implemented levels. Students develop a business- related computer project using a powerful object-oriented language.
Would these courses be of any use ? Thanks.
mack: I'm just a rising sophomore so feel free to ignore my advice. But some quant funds recruiting at my school did list comp sci. as one of the majors they were recruiting and under requirements/qualifications, they listed proficiency with programming languages such as C++, Perl, Python.
I don't even recall how many funds did this - so not sure how widespread this is but know that a few definitely did.
I'd highly recommend it. A basic knowledge of CS is ALWAYS a good thing. Best of luck,
Paradoxical
CS develops your logics. It will help you to gain an edge on people who have not done it. However, be aware that if you are a finance major, you are competing with programmers who started programming since high school. In other words, if you don't work your ass off, you will see ur GPA dropping like no other. The intro CS class in my school is also called the "weeder" class. It basically "weeds" out all the engineers who simply are not on-par with other engineers in terms of dedication and smarts.
My conclusion, take it, but expect to stare at ur computer screen for 10 hour straight for a project.
Seriously? Compsci's easy as hell, especially the lower level classes.
Expect to never go to class and still get an A
