Snt jump to IBD after summer Intern

Hey all - curious if anyone has experience moving from Trading to IB coverage after a summer Intern? I wondered if anyone knew how hard it is to switch from a sales and trading summer internship to an IBD FT job at a BB.

Recently accepted a trading offer with a tier 1 BB. But personally preferred working IB for better exit opportunities to corporate and PE. I was told that I have to work more than a year in snt before internal transfer to IBD, and starting as Junior Analyst again.  Didn't feel worth the time and effort. And if I apply for full-time IBD, can I apply to the same company I interned at? Or it would be a negative thing if the desk I interned at found out?

Last question, what would be some recommendations to choose trading desks if I want to jump to the ibd route?

Depends on what bank. Some keep a stonewall between the two. Others allow it although sentiment is hush hush. You would absolutely start as a junior analyst. don't even think about applying to same firm. there's no point. you're already in. Saw a girl do this in my intern class 2 summers ago at BB. She was in SnT (albeit a desk that interacted a lot with DCM) and made the switch but it was ugly for her for much of the summer. She wasn't sure she would get a return from either trading or a banking group. She didn't know until after the whole summer ended. Imagine sleeping through that.

My advice would be to reapply FT at other banks in banking or get onto HR around 2 weeks in and let them know what you want to do.
