It doesn't matter, because the amount you receive will be negligible after a year like this. Don't let people in S&T tell you that their business isn't cyclical. The reality is that S&T is MORE cyclical than traditional investment banking business.

Most banks pay in the summer, but some banks, like Merrill and Barclays Capital, pay out their analysts like they do the rest of the bank. Not sure if that's a trend or not....

Talking to the analysts on my desk, in the current market environment S&T bonuses average out the same as in IBD, but the distribution is much wider. On desks like commodities and equity derivatives they should be receiving quite a bit more than the bankers, but on desks that are losing money they may get next to nothing. I know the range for associates this past year was very, very wide, so it's likely to be somewhat similar for analysts.

 

Sources tell me that the top bucket for first years at some BB in New York is around $85,000. This is hearsay; take it for what it's worth.
