S&T Fixed Income To Commodities ?

I am passionate about commodities and would really like to make a career out of it. I am currently an intern in S&T Fixed Income. Is this an experience that I can value ?

Is it easy to go from S&T Fixed Income internship to a full time offer in commodities ? (Traf, mercuria, LDC, Macquarie…)

Many thanks for your answers.

I particularly like the multidisciplinary aspect of the job, mixing finance, international trade and economics. After having exchanged on LinkedIn with physical traders on the job and the qualities that it is necessary to have I am convinced that it is a career that I will make.

Very good question regarding inter ship placement.

I won't go into details but in my country (Europe) the BB's have almost fired all the commo services. There are only opportunities in trade finance + due to the taxation of the country there are almost no opportunities here (only agri). Being interested in trading metals rather than agriproducts Idk if I should have persisted in having an opportunity in agri and then switched to metals.

I went from BB S&T SA to a trade house in the same league you’re talking about FT. For junior level roles your prior experience should be good enough to get an interview, but even the largest firms don’t hire much junior trading talent if at all, most times you’ll have to start out in a support role for years before you can make the jump to trader if you’re lucky. If you’re really passionate about commodities and are willing to settle for working for a firm outside of just the large trade houses, you should be able to make the switch if you’re persistent enough.
