Was an intern last year in FI S&T. I would recommend not wearing suits (and definitely no ties). I'd stick with a nice buttoned long-sleeve dress shirt, chinos/suit pants, and business/dress shoes. Wear simple colors like navy, charcoal, khaki, brown, and white. Girls can get away with more fashionable choices. If you stick to this, you will not stand out (in a bad way), and you will be somewhat at/above the modern dress code.

Other tips: No visible tattoos, no AirPods, no gaudy/flexy jewelry, wear a belt, wear an undershirt, wear plain socks, be clean-shaven, bring backup clothing to the office for emergencies

Nobody in my class wore a suit on the first day (and this was also encouraged by salespeople/traders at the bank). Anything more dressy than what I said is too overdressed for the floor.

Airpods cuz it looks like you aren't doing your job? Hard to imagine it's a style issue

no airpods until the associates and above leave. no jewlery or earrings especially if your a dude that shit is gay.

extra dress shirt at the office is a good idea to quote dude above.

no ties, maybe u can wear a tie the first day until someone tells you to take it off or you will look like a corn.

get 3 suits from indochino sized and fitted and 5 fitted dress shirts for ~$1500. get matching colored socks. rotate the suit bottoms and tops and suit jackets. get a black suit, charcoal, and a navy.

also if your a dude, go and buy like 25 cheap white undershirts (vneck) or you will sweat through the dress shirts. its cheap.

2-3 ties also plain colors no red ties. black shoes.

no navy suits with brown belts euro's will freak.

also bring a steamer.

Black suit for NYC in the summer? Mf coming to the office like a sweaty mortician

If you wear a suit on a trading floor you might as well say goodbye to any hopes of a return offer.

Exceptions: final/capstone presentation day, and if you magically are asked to meet clients

You can get away with lulu pants - but depends on the desk tbh. Typically older guys will dress up more and younger guys will sometimes just be in short sleeve polos like they’re about to go golfing. Just read the room but have 2 suits prepared

Can’t say for sure, might just be a coincidence. I remember when I rotated through my internship PB and Credit were a lot more relaxed than EQD and FX for some reason. Definitely varies bank by bank

Is it appropriate to wear a watch? Have a few watches (under 5k) but don’t want to give off the wrong impression.

Take w grain of salt but ripping out a collection of 2 tudors and an Otis is pretty wild, I’d prob just keep it to 1.

On this topic, are Apple Watch Ultras looked down on?

get a shitty casio for $20. 100% accurate time and nobody can be upset
